GRAMMAR WINNING WAYS RETURN AT HOME

Aberdeen Grammar 36 Musselburgh 0

Aberdeen Grammar ended their dismal run of form at home when they swept aside Musselburgh in a five-try rout, while keeping a clean sheet for the first time this season.

The win was the first league victory at Rubislaw since last December when they beat Hawick in a Premiership 1 match.

Head coach Mike O'Donovan was both relieved and delighted to have captured five points which keeps his side in touch with the leaders Haddington and West of Scotland in the promotion race in Premiership 2.

"Keeping a clean sheet was important. I thought our cover defence was excellent, but we also scored some first class tries. It's another step in our development," he said.

Grammar wrapped up the win in an explosive first half, clearly intent on giving their supporters a treat after the miseries of the Jed-Forest defeat at Rubislaw two weeks previous.

Encouragingly for O'Donovan Grammar looked to have found a place kicker to replace Keith Oddie, as centre Andrew Ritchie kicked four conversions and an opening penalty to get the scoreboard ticking.

Ritchie capped a fine day with a first half try, claiming a welcome bonus point for scoring four tries.

But the try of the day came in 20 minutes when Grammar added to Ritchie's second minute penalty through the excellent Morgan Ward, but only after the ball had been in six pairs of home hands.

The try set the tone for the half, as the visitors struggled to cope with attack after attack from the home side.
