Haddington vs Aberdeen Grammar

Haddington 6 Aberdeen Grammar 5
Grammar's inability to take their chances against Haddington cost them dearly as they slumped to sixth place in their bid to get back into Premiership 1 with Saturday's 6-5 defeat.
"I can't fault the team's effort, but I am unhappy we failed to take three chances late in the game," said a disappointed Mike O'Donovan the head coach after Grammar had lost a game that was there for the taking.
"We got pinned down, but were upset by an injury in 10 minutes to stand off Billy Russell which knocked us of course," added O'Donovan.
Russell has suspected torn ligaments and may miss the next few games.
The visitors defended bravely, but were unable to assert themselves until winger Ali Robertson scored a late try to give them a glimmer of hope going into the closing stages of the game.
Trailing 6-0 at the break, Grammar should have made better of the elements in the second half but, as has been their story of the season, failed to push home their advantage against a side which is still in contention but unlikely to gain promotion.
Despite O'Donovan's insistence his side can still make the top two, all the indications point to Grammar suffering a second season in Premiership 2 but, with other side's failing to capitalise, the opportunity still exists to make a run in the second half of the campaign.
Grammar are now nine points behind the leaders Biggar and by no means out of the chase, but some consistency is now required for a quick return to the top flight.
"We conceded too many penalties and were turned over once too often, but we are still in the chase," said an optimistic O'Donovan.
